Feed Your Soul With God’s Word
God’s Word is food for our soul’s. We need to feed on it daily in order for it to nourish us. The Bible is God’s banquet for us. This is where you’ll find His guidance and direction for how we are to live our lives and helps us develop a relationship with Him. God’s Word allows us to see His love for us and teaches us how to love others as Jesus did.
In Jeremiah 15:16 it says Jeremiah devoured God’s Word. Have you ever been so hungry that you devoured what you were eating? I have and man, did it taste good! When you are starving you eat and eat and eat until you are satisfied and that’s what God’s Word does for your soul. It satisfies the hunger that everyone of us is born with for a relationship with God.
Why Do You Need Food For Our Soul?
Let me ask you another question. What are you feeding your souls? Huh? Think about this for a second. Our eyes and ears are holes just like our mouths. What goes in them is what our souls feed on. So I ask you again…what are you feeding your souls? What shows do you watch, what books do you read, what type of music do you listen to and who do you hang around? Do these things feed your soul with high quality nourishment or are they junk food for your soul making it unhealthy?
Let me give you an example. As some of you may know, I’m a Certified Personal Trainer. For YEARS I’ve been telling folks to retrain their minds about how they think about food. You see, you have to start looking at food as fuel for your bodies and not just comfort or pleasure. Picture this…if you owned a Lambhorghini, would you put cheap gas in it and expect it to run like it should? Of course not! So why would you fuel your body with junk food and expect it to run at it’s best?
The same goes for fueling your spirit. You have to nourish it with high quality fuel (God’s Word) in order for it to be healthy and operate as it was designed to do.
How To Let It Nourish You
You would think this was a simple question to answer, but so many folks struggle with this. The simple answer is…you need to read and meditate on God’s Word. You need to take time to memorize it so that it becomes a part of your being. But, so many people think they can skim over this and they’ll just know it. That’s not how it works.
Let me be clear…you don’t have to spend hours a day reading. Just like with regular food for your body, small meals throughout the day is best! If you only have 5 minutes…take on verse. Right it down on a card or post it note and put it on your bathroom mirror or in your car. Someplace you will see it often throughout the day. Think about it. Pray for God to show you how to apply it to your life and let Him use His Word to change you.
How do you know what scriptures to read? What are you struggling with? What do you feel you need to learn? Ask God to show you what needs to be changed in your life and look up scriptures about that subject. If you want to learn more about Jesus, read the gospels in the new testament. In Matthew 4:1-11 Jesus gives us the example on how to use God’s Word to defeat the enemy.
Most importantly, ask God for a hunger for His Word. When you do this, He will put a desire in your heart to read His Word and this will feed your souls with what you need to defeat the enemy when He attacks.
So, my friend, go to the banquet God has provided for you. Eat and continue eating to feed your soul with the only food it needs…God’s Word.
