Why Is God Taking So Long To Answer My Prayers?

Spread the love

Do you have unaswered prayers? Do you sometimes wonder if God is listening to you? Have you ever asked why is He taking so long to answer your prayers? Or asked “Am I on the wrong path? Am I working in my own power and not His? Why? WHY???” I know I’ve asked myself these questions many times. I’d think I was in God’s will and then all of a sudden…BAM! A road block goes up and no matter what I did I couldn’t get around it. So many times. I’d just quit. I mean, surely God wouldn’t make things THIS hard, would He?

My Story

Let me give you an example. When I first started this blog 5 years ago, I knew that I knew, that I KNEW God wanted me to write. I’ve known it for years! I had multiple people tell me it was my calling. In the past, I’d even tried….a little. But I was never persistant with it. When I started this blog, I just knew this was it. Then obstacles started popping up.

You see, I’m not necessarily the most tech savvy chick on the planet! LOL! Techy issues would pop up, I’d go to Google. I mean, Google is my friend, right? Google knows everything! Problem is, Google knows TOO much for this girl. Too many options and I don’t know what to do. So, I’d take a step back…sometimes for a very long time. It took me a long time to realize, I had fallen back into an old pattern.

Fear of failure, fear of doing the wrong thing, fear of being wrong! You see, that was my M.O. and the devil knew it and so did God. WHAT? God? Yes, God. So many times when road blocks or obstacles get in our way, we always blame the devil and that’s exactly what I was doing. I was rebuking him in the name of Jesus! Casting him out and praying like there was no tomorrow for God to intervene and save me! Round and round that mountain I went for 4 years! Ha! It just hit me as I wrote that, the children of Israel did the same thing for 40 years! Wow! Anyway, for 4 years, I struggled with my writing until God gave me some insight to what was going on.

Originally, my blog was named PositivelyLivingHealthy.com. I know, a mouth full but it covered all the bases. Positive thinking and healthy living and how they worked together. Then the revelation came….none of that really mattered without God being in the center of it. So I changed the name of the blog to LiveGodsWay.com and things began to roll. Literally overnight, more people were reading and I thought “YES! Finally, I’m on my way to writing what I was supposed to write!”

This Was It!

Guys, I was so excited and was turning posts out regularly. But, then I wanted to share something with you guys. Something that had the power to help you change your lives! And I wanted to give it away for free! Surely, God would want this! For weeks I worked on trying to figure out how to do it. I watched videos, read articles, and even changed the email service I was using and STILL couldn’t figure it out.

I had prayed and prayed and still nothing. One morning on the way to work, God and I had a serious talk about the whole thing. I said “Lord, I need to you to show me if I’m wrong. I believe in the bottom of my soul that I should be doing this but it’s taking me away from the writing I know you want me to do? Am I just working in the flesh? Is this just my idea? I can NOT believe that you don’t want me to give this away. It’s not earning me anything…it’s FREE! So why wouldn’t you want me to do this? However, I want your will not mine but I need you to show me, please, please show me!”

Here’s Your Sign

Seriously, that was my prayer. And all that day, I heard….crickets. Nothing! But, the next morning as I was reading in Matthew 9:27-30, God gave me my sign. This is the story about the 2 men who were blind and they followed Jesus shouting “Son of David, have mercy on us”. The followed Him right up into the house where He was staying! Now that’s being persistant and bold! What I want you to get here is Jesus made them wait! Did you get that? They followed him…shouting! You know He had to have heard them, and He just kept walking.

Then, He asked them a question, “Do you believe I can heal you?” What? If they didn’t believe would they have followed Him? But He still required an answer! When they replied “Yes, Lord.”, THAT’S when He healed them! And that’s when He told them why He made them wait, “Because of your faith, it happened.” He tested them to make sure there faith was real!

When I read that, it hit me. God had been testing me! It wasn’t the devil putting the road blocks up, it was God! He wanted to see if like SO many times in my past, I’d give up when things got hard. If I would throw in the towel and walk away thinking it wasn’t His will because He wouldn’t make things that hard for me. Or, would I procrastinate so long that I just never got started again. He was testing me to see if I would be persistant enough to get past the hard stuff! He wanted to make sure I trusted Him enough to keep going! He wanted to make sure my faith was real!

God Will Test Us

Before you start thinking God wouldn’t test us, let me give you some scripture.

And these are just a few! These all tell us that God WILL test us.

Have You Ever Felt This Way?

So I ask you, have you ever felt like God was taking too long to answer your prayers? Did you ever doubt you were in God’s will because it seemed that there was obstacle after obstacle in your way? Have you ever blamed the devil for not being able to get past a road block? Maybe, it’s just God testing you. Maybe He’s waiting for you to be persistant and not give up hope. Maybe He wants to see if your faith is real.

Stay Close

Here’s where we have to make sure we have a close connection to God. the devil is VERY good at what he does and if we aren’t careful he can fool us. Make sure that if you are running in to obstacles that you ask yourself these questions.

  • Have I really prayed and asked God if this is His will
  • Am I doing (whatever) God’s way or my own
  • Am I seeking glory for myself or God (ouch! Hard to ask, but necessary)

Pray, pray, pray! Prayer is the key to keeping close to God and without that close relationship, you can’t know His will.

You CAN Have A Relationship With God

You may say “But, I don’t have that close relationship with God?” The good new is you can. God longs to have a close relationship with each one of us! That’s why He created us in the first place! If you’ve never received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, pray this prayer with me. “Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior”.

If you sincerely prayed that prayer, welcome to the family! Now, I encourage you to find someone to share your decision with who can support you in your new walk.

Obstacles Are A Part Of Life

Here’s the thing folks…we are ALL going to run in to obstacles or road blocks. It’s called life! What we have to do is ask God to show us whose putting the obstacle in our way. If it’s the devil….fight him (you have the power through Jesus!) but if it’s God…be persistant! Follow Him, shouting all the way for Him to help you! But most of all don’t give up and make sure you TELL Him (just like the blind man did) that you beleive He can and WILL help you!

So what’s the end of my story? Sign up for my email and see! All I can say is GOD IS GOOD!

I can’t wait to hear from you. Please let me know what you need. Is there anything you are struggling with? Email me. Has this helped you? Please comment below. Share what God is doing in your life. Your comment may help someone else. As always, I’m praying for all of you!

God Bless,

P.S. At the time of this writing, I hadn’t finished my email stuff. It wasn’t until after I wrote this that God blessed me! I put my faith in to action BEFORE the blessing and He worked it all out. I TOLD you God was good!
