So you’ve been working out for some time.  You’ve had some progress but there’s something wrong.  You aren’t getting the results you once were.  You’ve stalled out….the dreaded PLATEAU!!  You can’t quite put your finger on it.  Why all of a sudden did it stop working?  It could be that your body is trying to tell you something….

Yes, your body is bored with the same old same old, everyday the same thing.  You see, your body is smart!  When you do the same thing everyday, at the same time, at the same speed…it knows what to expect so it kind of says “Oh, I know what she’s/he’s going to do today so I’m just going to chill”.   It can literally guess what you are going to do next.  It’s not challenged to work harder so it doesn’t.  It just rests.  Now, don’t get me wrong.  You are still getting great health benefits from working out but if you want to see change, you have to change it up.  I have told people for years, you have to trick your body.  Keep it second guessing so it doesn’t know what to expect.  That’s why I love HIIT.  I’ve done HIIT long before it was fashionable!  You can apply the HIIT applications to any workout you are doing.  If you are a walker, alternate your speeds with 1-2 minutes of walking at a good, solid, steady pace with 30 seconds of brisk walking.  If you are a runner, same thing.  1-2 minutes of steady running with 30 seconds of sprints.  With weight training you can increase your weights for one set and do fewer reps.  The key is to do a few minutes with lower intensity and then max it out in short spurts of high energy.people-running

Another way to change it up is to do something entirely different.  Run, walk, bike ride, play tennis, get on an elliptical at the gym, go for a swim or dance!  Dancing can kill some calories if you really get into it.  Put some music on and pretend you are back in high school!!

If you are in a slump or have hit a plateau, try changing up your routine, do something different.  But, most of all…..HAVE FUN!!

Well guys and gals, I hope this helps!  If you ever have any questions, feel free to contact me and I would love to hear how you change things up so leave me a comment!  As always, thanks for stopping by and keep on moving!!!!!
